Tenacatita & Rebalsito
Tenacatita, located 38km NW of Barra de Navidad, 9km off highway 200, about an hour from Manzanillo Playa de Oro airport, is a tiny collection of restaurants and limited accommodations on the most beautiful part of Bahia Tenacatita. There are now four hotels, one with pool and suites and one of which includes a campground with hook-ups. Camping along the beach at Tenacatita and around the corner at Playa Mora is also permitted. In the high seasons December - April and July - mid-August campers are generally to be found. During Christmas week and Semana Santa there are so many campers it may be hard to find a spot.
The beach at Tenacatita beach "proper" is very sandy and very flat with gentle waves down at the end where the restaurants are and stronger waves further south. It's great for swimming by the restaurants and boogie boarding further south. Just over a small hill and around the northern corner of the beach you will find Playa Mora where there is a coral reef perfect for snorkelling and diving. About 2 km further north at El Tecuan, somewhat accessable from a sand road along the beach, one can surf. However beware the undertow. Jungle tours through the mangroves and along the river out to the sea are available from the Tenacatita Lagoon.
Rebalsito is a little town located 3km inland from the beach on the road into Tenacatita. There is one hotel in Rebalsito, with another under construction. There is no bank, casa de cambio or ATM. There are several small grocery and beer stores and a couple of informal restaurants in people's homes. If you are planning a stay at Tenacatita and want to cook for yourself you can buy fresh seafood at the beach and vegetables in Rebalsito. If you want more than that best bring some groceries from Melaque or Manzanillo. The water, ice and beer trucks that service the hotels and restaurants also service campers.
