Talpa de Allende
Talpa de Allende is a jewel of a town with roughly 8,000 inhabitants nestled in a valley of the Sierra Cacoma at roughly 3,900 feet above sea level. It's no surprise that Talpa has been interpreted to mean the place above the earth in Náhuatl. The Spaniards settled Talpa peacefully in 1540.
Known throughout Mexico due to the revered Virgin of Talpa the town attracts thousands of religious pilgrims annually from all parts of Mexico. Talpa also offers good restaurants, many hotels among them the Hacienda Jacarandas Bed and Breakfast outside of town, a variety of local arts and crafts and regional fruit candy.
Talpa contains remarkable colonial architecture dating back to the 1600's including; The Sanctuary of the Virgin of Talpa, constructed in 1782, the Parish Church of Our Lord Saint Joseph where construction began in the 1600's and the Chapel of the Mineral de El Cuale that was constructed mainly of stone in 1870.
