Melaque, San Patricio
& Villa Obregón
Melaque, San Patricio and Villa Obregón are three small beach towns that line up side by side along the west side of Bahia Navidad to form one full service tourist village of about 9,000 inhabitants. Known collectively as Melaque, which is the largest and most commercial of the three, together they offer a wide variety tourist and business services. The towns are about 3km from Barra de Navidad by the beach and 5km by the highway, about 30 minutes from the Manzanillo Playa de Oro airport.
Melaque is the most commercial town on Bahia Navidad having a Banamex bank with two ATMs, a medium size and well stocked super market called the Herradura, the main bus terminals for the area, and a traditional Mexican style mercado where one can buy fresh food. Unlike Barra de Navidad, Melaque does not have a fisherman's warf on the lagoon so most boat charters leave from Barra. The Laguna de Tule in Villa Obregón is not open to the sea so is not used for boat traffic.
There are too many restaurants in Melaque to list, some close between May and November but most don't. One restaurant not to be missed on a trip to the area is Restaurante Maya on the beach in Villa Obregón serving exquisite food and drink in a too perfect setting, muy romantico. Another restaurant also in Villa Obregon with great food and decour in a private courtyard setting with pool is La Salamandra.
These three little towns offer a wide selection of accommodation running from super-budget to luxury. And much of this is right on the beach with swimming pools. We've provided links to those we've found with web sites on the right - if you have accomodations and a web site drop us a line for a link.
