Manzanillo and Santiago
Manzanillo is a port city of approximately 110,000 located on two cresent shaped bays, Bahías Manzanillo and Santiago, the shoreline of each is about 4-miles long. Manzanillo offers everything that a major city offers as well as beautiful golden sand beaches with gentle waves. Downtown Manzanillo is located on Bahía de Manzanillo along with the Port of Manzanillo and beach areas San Pedrito and Las Brisas. Las Brisas is located across a channel, away from the port, towards Bahía Santiago, San Pedrito is next to the port.
The Santiago Peninsula, where luxurious private homes as well as hotels Las Hadis and The Sierra are located, separates the two Bays. On Bahía de Santiago to the west of the Santiago Penninsula one will find more lovely sandy beaches including Miramar and the very calm La Boquita where normally the waves are barely a ripple on the surface and fresh seafood restaurants abound. Bahía de Santiago also has a small rocky point in the Olas Altas beach area where waves are good for boogie boarding and sometimes big enough for surfing.
Coastal Hwy. 200 changes names and becomes the main arterial traffic route as it passes through Manzanillo. Along this main road one will find access to among other things; beaches, restaurants, shopping centres and hospitals. Main shopping districts are; Santiago where you'll find the Mercado and the Artisanas across the street, Salagua a pretty shopping area, and Manzanillo Centro where one can enjoy a walk along the Malecon and a hike up to a view point, a visit to the Mercado and lunch in the courtyard restaurant of the Hotel Colonial.
