Best Boat Dive Sites
El Laboratorio

Across the bay from Cuastecomates beach, about 20 minutes from Barra by boat, el Laboratorio the Laboratory is a coral reef. Dive depth ranges from 6 to 50 feet. One can snorkel here as well as SCUBA but there is no beach access, one can only enter the water here from the boat. This is a good dive site for beginning certified divers. There are some interesting rock formations under the water, a coral reef, and lots of fish.

Cuastecomates Reef

Just out from Cuastecomates beach lies a small coral reef in shallow water that ranges in depth from 12 to 25 feet. This site, located about 20 minutes from Barra by boat, is perfect for recently certified divers that want some easy ocean time and for those looking for an introduction to SCUBA. This reef is also good for snorkelers and may quite easily be reached from shore near the end of the stone jetty.

El Viejo
About 15 minutes from Barra de Navidad by boat, near the outside of Bahia Navidad, el Viejo the Old Man is a pinnacle rock formation that rises out of the water from a depth of about 90 feet. Currents can be strong at El Viejo so it's recommended for experienced certified divers only. There are large schools of fish and the rock formation itself to see on the dive.
Bahías Navidad & Cuastecomates
El Chino
El Chino, located in Bahia Navidad, is only a short boat ride from Barra. The water is very clear here and one can observe many different types of fish, manta rays, and coral. Dive depth is 40 to 45 feet and at times there can be a current at El Chino so depending on ocean conditions it may be recommended for experienced certified divers only. Your divemaster will inform you as to the conditions on the day of your dive.
El Morro Prieto
El Morro Prieto The Dark Rock located near the mouth of Cuastecomated Bay, about 15 minutes from Barra de Navidad by boat, is a large rock formation that rises out of the ocean. Dive depths range from 30 to 80 feet depending on what sort of dive you want to make it. El Morro Prieto features black coral, fan coral, anemones, and many types of fish. There are rarely currents at El Morro Prieto and it is normally recomended for all certified divers.
Los Corrales
Los Corrales The Corrals (as in place where you'd keep a horse) is a small reef encircled by large rocks. Located quite near to El Morro Prieto the dive depth is 40 to 45 feet and there are not normally any currents at this site.
