Get off the bus and walk towards the centre of Barra on Avenida Veracruz, the main street the bus stations are on. We are located one block down, at 204 Veracruz, next to the Cristal ice factory, directly across from the town square (Jardin) and catty corner from the ATM. |
| The Subida Blanca mountain bike tour starts between 8:00 and 8:30 am. The earlier you start the cooler it will be when you begin the climb. Please arrive about 1/2 an hour early so we can get you outfitted with a bike and helmet. |

| Difficulty: challenging |
| This tour includes a 9 km climb on a dirt and sand road and is perfect for those who want a good workout mountain biking up hill. It's hard work but the view from the top and the ride back down make it all worthwhile! Starting from Barra de Navidad we ride the bikes to Jaluco along shady back roads. Along the way we will visit a brick-works where they make the bricks used in construction in the area in the traditional manner. |
| We will also pass by farms and orchards where chiles, tomatoes, coconuts, tamarindo, bananas, and mangos are grown. This is a true mountain bike ride and is only flat for about 4 km before the steady climb begins. There is a break at El Mirador, the viewpoint about ¾ of the way up. From there you can see Grand Bay Hotel, Isla Navidad, Barra de Navidad, Melaque, San Patricio, Villa Obregon and the Pacific Ocean spread out before you. |
|
The sunset view is spectacular and if you are up to the climb in the late afternoon you will find it well worth the effort. The tour is not for the out of shape or faint at heart. From El Mirador you can continue another 3 km to Las Trancas, the smallest settlement in the area, where there is a stream to cool off in. Or you can call it quits at El Mirador and just enjoy the cooling breeze you will generate on the way back down the hill.
