| Carnaval Autlan 2008 |
It is now confirmed that the trip will run on the most eventful day of Carnaval Autlan 2008 – Fat Tuesday – Mardi Gras – Martes de Carnaval – February 5th, 2008. Join us on a fun and event filled bus trip to the final and most exciting day of Carnaval Autlan 2008. Carnaval Autlan is now in its 176th year so you know these folks know how to throw a party!
The bus will pick up in Barra de Navidad in front of Casa de Marco on Avenida Veracruz at 7:00 am and pickup in Melaque in front of Banamex at 7:15 am. We will arrive in Autlan about 10:30 am. There will be pastries, fruit and coffee on the bus and we have a big lunch planned for that afternoon so hopefully that will hold everyone until then.
Arriving in Autlan we will proceed to the centro and enjoy the beverages prepared in the “Callejon de Gusto” and for those who are still peckish you can surely grab a taco here. Then we are off to the Plaza de Toros for the 11:30 Toros de Once, where we will enjoy an hour of the final presentation of bull riding for Carnaval Autlan 2008 on bulls owned by Senior Sergio Santana Corona of Rancho Cuyotomate in nearby Tonaya.
| About 12:30 pm we will re-board our bus and go to lunch in one of Autlan’s oldest restaurants La Cabaña where we will enjoy the house specialty Arrichara (marinated beef) and to get us in that true Carnaval spirit lunch also includes 2 drinks (tequila and squirt or rum and coke) or 4 beer - or 1 drink (tequila and squirt or rum and coke) and 2 beer per person. After lunch (about 2:00) we again board the bus and head out on a 20 minute drive to check in at Hotel Corona in El Grullo where we spend the night. |
At 3:45 after checking in and freshening up at the hotel we again board the bus for the 20 minute trip back in to the Plaza de Toros for the bull fights. This final night of bull fighting features; matadors Juan José Padilla (Jerez de la Frontera, Cádiz, Spain) one of Spain’s “Primer Círculo” matadors; Antonio Bricio (León, Guanajuato, México) and Leopoldo Casasola (Texcoco, México, México) with 6 Toros de San Marcos. We will have reserved seats on the shady side of the plaza for this event.
| After the bull fights we will stay in the plaza for the closing ceremonies that commence at 7:00 pm and include the Equestrian performance Orgullo Mexicano from Rancho Betania, Colima. After these closing ceremonies we will enjoy the street party as we head over the four blocks to the Jardín Constitución for the 8:00 performance by the best ranchero singer around, Paloma del Rio, accompanied by el Mariachi Nuevo 2000. |

For those who want to return to the hotel after this the bus will be making a trip back to El Grullo (where it will be nice and quiet for sleeping). For those who want to party on in the square, or attend the Grand Baille de Carnaval (Carnival Grand Ball) the bus will return later to pick you up and one of the guides will remain with you. |
| The next morning we will check out and board the bus by 8:00 am so that we can have breakfast and arrive in Tonaya at 9:30 am for our tour of the Mezcal Factory el Grupo Corona who produce the mezcal: rancho escondido, mezcal don armando (reserva), mezcalito, aventurero, tres and more. After our tour of the mezcal factory we will explore this quaint town including the ruin of the old church of the Virgin of Tonaya and the Temple of Our Lady of the Asuncion that dates from the 1800’s.
