Frequently Asked Questions

Am I required to declare my bike at Aduana (Mexican Customs) when I arrive?

Aduana will permit the importation of one used bicycle per person for your personal use while visiting Mexico. You are not required to pay a deposit on the bike nor is it registered with Aduana when you arrive. If your bike is not used, you will be required to declare it and pay duty unless you are travelling by air and your new bike is valued at under $300 USD. The $300 exemption on a new bike, when travelling by air depends on what other items you are bringing with you. Generally speaking you are allowed to bring with you duty-free: clothing and personal items such at toiletries in quantities sufficient for your stay in Mexico along with the luggage they are packed in.

You may also bring books and magazines as long as they are not in quantities sufficient for re-sale, one personal lap top computer, one camera, one video camera, 12 rolls of film, a personal CD player, 20 CDs, 5 DVDs, one used sports equipment, three litres of liquor per adult and up to $300 USD in other goods not listed here that are for your personal use and are not for re-sale in Mexico. You are also allowed to bring in some tobacco but we don't smoke so I don't pay attention to how much.

If you are arriving by land, goods in the amount of $50 USD are allowed over and above the things listed above. Note: this list is to be used as a guideline only, it is not complete, and we do not guarantee the facts as stated at your time of travel. If you think that you are going to be close to your limit on any of this please check with Mexican officials in your country of origin prior to leaving home to make sure that you are not bringing in goods that may be subject to duty.
